Suukha duo Taylah and Brit secured a main road premises in Balgowlah, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, to open up their new business - a holistic hair and makeup studio. We were invited to guide them on their design journey, transforming the vestiges of an Italian restaurant into a calm and nurturing space for their clients. Taylah and Brit had a very clear vision and brief in mind: they wanted to provide a place that allowed their clients to feel at home and at ease, where they could rejuvenate and reset.

We began by collating a neutral palette, creating a refreshing antithesis to the busyness of the outside world.  A warm white textural paint was applied to the walls, Light timber wishbone chairs, floating shelves and streamlined cabinets gave a clean, Scandinavian feel. A plush boucle armchair, half-moon side tables and a large hexagonal greeting table, both crafted from travertine, brought understated yet luxurious detail to the studio. Assorted plants in organic pots provide a feeling of vitality as soon as you enter the space.

Flowing curtains form a beautiful, textural screen between the salon and its functional areas, so we could maintain a sense of peace and warmth. The introduction of arched and organic shaped mirrors brought openness, reflected light and softness to the walls.

Suukha’s completed studio embodies that desired sense of ease. It’s a place offering deeply earthed nourishment where time can stop still for just a little while.

“There was something magical about collaborating and creating in the thick of a pandemic - joining forces felt elevated with a shared sense of empowerment, support and the understanding that anything is truly possible.

We reached out to Bone Made after we had taken the leap to start our soul project in the thick of very uncertain pandemic times. We stood overwhelmed in our studio space ready to be gutted and started anew. This was our first renovation ever and we had no idea how to bring everything together, at all. Fliss and Leah danced us through the flow of the space, suggested colour schemes, helped us get clear on our vision and ultimately allowed us to make the most out of our space. Their expertise and precision put us at ease, their guidance allowed us to work fast with our timeline and their patience fished us out of a few bloopers along the way.

They treated our project like our own and still make us feel lifted daily, as spending time in our studio encompasses more then we could have imagined.”
