Megan Avenue Project
Concept Refined Federation
Embodying a quiet grandeur and a contemporary femininity, Megan Avenue is a warm and deeply textural reimagining of the traditional Federation home. Bone Made’s design approach merges classic detailing with grounded, modern sensibilities; creating a residence that feels both storied and effortlessly current. Anchored by the project’s concept, ‘Refined Federation’, the home honours its architectural lineage while embracing a softer, more nurturing palette. Arched thresholds, wall panelling by Intrim and coffered ceilings introduce a sense of craftsmanship; each gesture speaking to the nostalgia of the era while remaining pared back enough for a modern family.
The journey begins in the foyer, where custom checkerboard flooring in muted tones sets a welcoming, graceful foundation. This transitional space leads gently down through a sweeping archway into the heart of the home; an open, light-filled living area.
A classic style wood-burner fireplace creates a stunning focal point within the living space and provides a nod to traditional Federation comfort. Custom fluted timber wall mounted joinery in a warm beige tone was designed to effortlessly conceal the TV when not in use, as well as showcase a layering of styling elements on the shelving; ensuring a homely touch.
Natural Calcatta Oro marble anchors the fireplace and joinery wall, acting as both a hearth as well as the element that cohesively blends all components together. Microcement is applied to the hero wall behind the fireplace and joinery, adding warmth, movement and a tactile depth.
Across the home, mid-toned walnut engineered floorboards bring a sense of natural richness, grounding the home with their subtle grain and tonal warmth.
The dining space is conceived as quiet gathering, where daily rituals and long conversations unfold with ease. A robust, custom timber dining table grounds the room, its honest materiality softened by a considered mix of seating that introduces contrast and lived in comfort. Suspended above, a black feature pendant light becomes a subtle focal point amongst the detailed coffered ceiling, easefully drawing the eye up. Overlooking the dining space and kitchen sits a beautifully designed banquette nook showcasing a muted green upholstered seat cushion and classic style wall light.
The kitchen is a refined blend of structure and softness. For the finishes palette, Bone Made paired a subtly veined sintered stone by Talostone with joinery washed in warm beige, muted green and pops of walnut. The result is a palette that feels fresh yet grounded - a contemporary reinterpretation of classic country tones. Coffered ceilings, black hardware and understated joinery detailing add architectural clarity without overpowering the serene materiality. A robust yet softy sculptured tapered form was designed for the feature rangehood, which creates symmetry within the kitchen. Beside the rangehood sits two kitchen windows adorned with striped sheer roman blinds, adding a nod to a classic country home, as well as softness and texture.
Beyond the main kitchen, a coffee nook and butlers pantry continues the theme with warm undulated feature tiles, timber shelving and a timber reveal detail.
Thoughtfully designed and quietly refined, the laundry elevates a traditionally utilitarian space into one of calm efficiency and considered detail. Custom warm beige joinery lines both sides of the space, providing generous storage whilst maintaining a clean, architectural rhythm. The appliances sit seamlessly within the joinery, ensuring functionality never disrupts the rooms’ composed aesthetic.
The bathrooms extend the home’s tactile narrative through limestone pavers and microcement walls, creating spaces that feel both robust and calming. Sintered stone brings elegance in a practical, enduring form, while the French Green and walnut toned vanities introduces a subtle wash of colour and warmth that enhances the calm, spa-like ambience. Soft curves in shower screens, niches, and joinery transitions add to the overall fluidity and sense of ease. The powder room is intimate and richly layered, wrapped in a delicate timeworn floral wallpaper. A custom Loughlin furniture timber vanity anchors the room, its’ warm grain and robust form introducing depth and a layer of warmth. Underfoot, the classic checkerboard tiles ground the space, lending rhythm and visual interest without overwhelming the palette.
Calm, considered and intentionally pared back, the master bedroom is conceived as a retreat – a space defined by softness, balance and quiet detail. Vertical wall panelling by Intrim introduces Architectural interest whilst maintaining a sense of simplicity and order.
Across every space, the design plays with the balance between old and new, rustic and refined. While the detailing gestures toward Federation-era charm, the palette, textures, and thoughtfully layered styling cultivate a modern warmth suited to contemporary family life.
Megan Avenue is a home that celebrates craftsmanship, subtlety and comfort. It’s an invitation into a slower, more grounded way of living; one shaped by natural materials, timeless finishes, and the enduring beauty of refined simplicity.
