Undergoing a full extension and second floor addition, our William St project displays a fusion of quaint cottage details and clean-lined, contemporary design.

The clients' brief was to create an airy space with an emphasis on natural light and generous flow. They also wished to blend ‘classic and contemporary’, incorporating subtle nods to the original cottage they once called home.

The full scope of works included the redesign of the kitchen, living area, main bathroom, the home office, guest bedroom, upstairs casual living, master bedroom and ensuite.

A light, neutral colour palette was selected, with pops of black to ensure the space showcased depth and contrast. Natural materials and textures were incorporated throughout. Warm timber was chosen for the flooring, shelving, key furnishings and an inviting reading nook in the master bedroom that offers a quiet, sun-soaked retreat.

A horizontal window in the kitchen brings the outside in, providing a frame of invigorating greenery and light. Inset timber shelving allows for ample display and storage, creating a subtle, organic patterning that sits alongside the white and soft grey cabinetry and benches, and the striking contrast delivered by the black fascia encasing the range hood.

Custom joinery throughout the home – in both pre-finished laminate in ‘Eik’ by George Fethers and a simple white – provides ample storage, and its clean geometric lines promote a feeling of calming order.

We designed the vision for the central staircase, choosing a floating timber tread with a refined white balustrade, continuing to incorporate satisfying geometric detailing. For the living space, skylights and rake windows let the light pour in. To warm those winter nights a wide wood heater was built into a neutral-toned ‘Murowash and Sand’ feature wall. This refined hearth provides a focal counterpoint to the soft, linen-blend drapery covering the broad living room windows with their view to the south.

Drenched in sunlight, with generous, flowing spaces to accommodate the needs of its busy family, this William St home became a haven full of warmth.

“Bone Made were such an incredible team to work with. We would honestly have been lost without them. They not only provided incredibly detailed plans and assisted with things way out of our depth but helped out with any dramas along the way.

They did a fantastic job of ensuring there was a consistency throughout the old and new parts of the home so everything blended as it should.

They also saved us from making some real design errors that we would have later regretted. We went into this not really knowing what interior designers were for and have come out of this project thinking you’d be mad not to have an interior designer.

All in all, we would highly recommend Bone Made to everyone and would work with them again.”
